Quintessence of dust

They talk blithely about using nuclear weapons against Iran.

What a piece of work is man!

What pitiless, soulless men we are, that we can believe that a crime beyond measure is permissible, that anything could justify it. What ugly, twisted creatures, that we can believe we have gods, eternal, transcendent beacons of love, that would wish this on others.

In the 62 years since the first test at Alamogordo, a few nations have foresworn nuclear weapons, but none has disarmed (with the possible exception of South Africa). I used to dream that the UK would lead the way, that we would finally grow up and show the responsibility and vision to be first. But we are to spend billions of pounds on a new set of weapons that have no use in dealing with the challenges we face, and, if used, would represent a crime beyond measure, a sin that our nation could never expiate.

Sadly, I think that the UK is 'pot-committed' as far as nuclear weapons go.
