King Fred?

This brilliant post by Glenn Greenwald lays bare the kind of man Fred Thompson is.

In the same speech -- the same speech! -- this puffed-up lietard decries the collapse of the rule of law in America (he means because a nasty court gave those bastard women the right to decide what to do with their own bodies and has defended the separation of church and state) and demands that a man whose crime fundamentally undermines the rule of law be pardoned.

These people have no shame. It would be a towering disaster for America and for the world if this dickwad were elected president. As Greenwald notes, he has spent half his campaign speeches pleading for a pardon for Libby because he is sending a message: he will be the new emperor if elected, and he will treat loyalty as the greatest virtue, as Bush has.

America is looking into the abyss. People are plausibly talking about a faked disaster, an outrage used to infringe on civil liberties further, to suspend the elections, end democracy in the States. But they may not need to bother. America might just be stupid enough to elect Thompson. Why not? It almost elected Bush twice.

Plausibly? I rather doubt that.

I mean that it is now plausible. You don't think so?

Do you not know that this is how you get fascism? Everyone goes They wouldn't! right up to the point that they're saying They didn't!.

They stole two elections. They started a war of choice against people they had nothing against. They have stolen billions. Man, a dirty bomb in Boston wouldn't hardly even be a crime in their books.

The Libby decision just said to the world, there are laws for you but not for us. So the fine stays in place, is Libby going to pay that? What with, the fee for one speech to some friendly organisation? It's not so much undermining the law as declaring it void. The nerve of it is quite staggering.

No, not plausible at all. The election rhythm is our heartbeat. Even if the White House was vaporized in an act of nuclear terrorism, elections would go forward.

That's what everyone thinks right up to the day the tanks move in.
