Laddies who launch
You want to launch a program. You know you have it somewhere. But it's not easy to find because it's stored under the name of its manufacturer or some other fiendish way to hide it. You need Launchy. It's a little thingo that you can type the name of a program into and then launch it. It'll have a guess at what you wanted, and if that isn't it, you pause and it will give you a list. thingo.
did you coin that word?
Sort of like whereis in unix, maybe.
"thingo" is Australian for "whatsit", "thingummy", "doodah"
I dunno, Don. unix is a commandline thingo, no? This pops up with a groovy box. Very nice.
In North America they say "thingy". The older form was "thingamajig". Like "whatchamacallit."
Were any of these used in England?
The program is very nice indeed. I've cleaned up desktop of everything except a few folders.
Don--I would say it's more like _find_ as _whereis_ stays strictly on the path.
I'm still trying to see how this thing[y|o] is better than just hitting WinKey-F, besides the sheer merit of its being Open Source. I suppose the indexing could be a bit smarter that what's just in the OS. But I guess it's difficult for me to envision as my usage profile probably diverges from the standard (the random file I'd be looking for would be so buried in such a pile shit I doubt it'd help much).
