Cornered

We can't leave, we're winning! Having deceived themselves into a war, lied throughout about how we were "winning" it and why we were fighting it, and been wrong on every count at every turn, now the hardest-core neocons are left with a fantasy world in which we are "turning the corner". And it is built on what? A temporary drop in killings and the (mistaken) belief that we are fighting AQ rather than embroiled in a sprawling civil conflict that doesn't have two clearcut sides.

But hey, we're making positive steps. Walling in a ghetto and making its inhabitants wear "badges" sound like great ideas. Why did no one think of that before?

small wars are commonly fought to realize the potency fantasies of rulers. the fantasy continues even when reality diverges.

then there's the other aspect: the bush family, and a lot of rich people, are profiting greatly from the munitions business. from that viewpoint, they are winning as long as there is gunfire.
