I'm sorry, I'm probably just an insensitive boob, but the issue is what sort of therapy she's getting. She doesn't mention her psychiatrist or any sort of therapy except to rationalize the normalcy of wanting to cut off your parts by relating how he's heard of other patients "wake up happy."
This isn't a taboo, this is self-destructive lunacy.
